In the “Texture Coordinate Editor” you will find by using the move scale and rotate buttons, you will be able to line up your bmp to your model very easily. If you click on select then you can choose any of the vertex’s and move it to better align your bmp. It will not effect the position of the model. And if you move the window so you can see the 3D view you can see the placement in real time. Some times you may have to click in the 3D view to see the change as you move the skin to different positions. And if you need a larger view in this window for fitting your parts at the bottom where it has Scale just type in 2 or 3.

As far as your skin files go you can use any type of picture file that milk can load.
It doesn't have to be a .bmp, milk will load almost every kind of pic format.

IMPORTANT for exporting A5 models.

If you are done and ready to export your model, check the "Groups" tag and if there is more than one group you have to select each part of your model, make sure they are all Red and then "Regroup" so the model is now one group.
Now export to A5 MDL.
After exporting before you close MilkShape choose "Edit" and then choose "Undo Regroup".
Now in the Groups tag you should have all the parts back the way they were.
Now you can save your model again before leaving milk. Don't hit save until you ungroup.
The reason for doing it this way is so if you have to come back and do more work on your model all the groups, animations and so forth will be as you did them.
Even though you can import an A5 MDL into milk it will "NOT" import the groups and animations with it, even the ones that you build in milk.
